Introduction
The Shanghai Songjiang Economic Development Zone (Shanghai Songjiang EDZ) is located in the Songjiang District in the south-western part of Shanghai. It consists of Shanghai Sijing High-tech Development Zone, Shanghai Songjiang High-tech Park and Dongjing Sub-zone of Songjiang Industrial Zone. Shanghai Songjiang EDZ was approved by the State Council to be a state-level development zone in 2006, and covers a planned area of 2.08 km2.
Shanghai Songjiang EDZ has convenient transportation conditions. It is 20 km away from the People's Square, the city center in Shanghai, and Shanghai Hongqiao Airport and Shanghai Pudong International Airport are 15 km and 40 km away from the zone respectively. Jiajin Highway, connecting Jiading and Jinshan, goes through the zone, while Shanghai Port, the largest ports in mainland China, is within one hour’s drive from the zone.
Songjiang University Town is located in the Songjiang District. Songjiang University Town includes Shanghai International Studies University, Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade, Shanghai Institute of Visual Art of Fudan University, et cetera. In 2007, the number of enrolled students was 72,100.
Investment Climate
Shanghai Songjiang EDZ encourages investments in electronic information, machinery and new construction materials industries. It has attracted a large number of domestic and foreign investors, including Hyundai, Hungtay Hitachi, Juki, Ikea, Baolong and ZCECO.
Ikea commenced the operation of a distribution center in Shanghai Songjiang EDZ in 2007. The center covers an area of 260,000 m2, and is the largest delivery center of Ikea in the Asia-Pacific Region. The center offers the logistics and warehousing services to Ikea's chain shops in the Asia-Pacific region.
