May 7, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Carlson Hotels Worldwide, one of the world's leading hotel franchisors, recently signed a hotel management agreement with Tibet Gakyiling Construction Company to open its first hotel in Lhasa, the capital city of Tibet Autonomous Region in China, sources reported.

The new hotel, namely the Park Plaza Lhasa City Center, will be operated under Carlson's hotel brand Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts and will be owned by the local construction firm Tibet Gakyiling Construction Company.

Jean-Marc Busato, the managing director for Asia Pacific of Carlson Hotels Worldwide, said the new hotel in Tibet is part of the company's development strategy in the next three years.

The 102-room hotel, which will be located on the main street in Lhasa City's downtown, is scheduled to open in 2010.

The hotel will be designed by the Nepal DISGN CELL Designer Company, featuring the ancient Tibetan architectural style.

Currently, Carlson runs nine hotels in major Chinese cities, such as Beijing and Tianjin, with another nine hotels still under development.
