Introduction

Shanghai Jiading Automobile Industrial Zone (Shanghai Jiading AIZ), located in Jiading District in the northwestern part of Shanghai, was approved as a municipality-level development zone by the Shanghai Municipal Government in 2006. It covers an area of 22.64 km2 and consists of Shanghai International Automobile City Automotive Components Supporting Park (Shanghai ACSP), Jiading Huangdu Industrial Zone (Jiading Huangdu IZ) and Jiading Nanxiang High-Tech Park (Jiading Nanxiang HTP).

Shanghai International ACSP, formerly the Volkswagen Industrial Park, was built up in the southern part of Shanghai in 1998. Jiading Huangdu IZ is situated near Jiading-Tianjin Highway, China National Highway 315 and Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway. Shanghai Tongji University borders the zone in the west. Jiading Nanxiang HP is situated in the northwestern part of Shanghai, 18 km away from Shanghai People's Square.

Shanghai Jiading AIZ is 22 km away from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport and 60 km away from Shanghai Pudong International Airport. Shanghai Port, the largest port in China in terms of cargo traffic and container throughput in 2007, is 25 km away.

Investment Climate

Shanghai ACSP encourages investments in auto parts and auto-related industries, such as bodywork, car doors, chassis systems, security systems and interior decoration systems. It is currently an important base for the auto parts industry in China.

Jiading Huangdu IZ encourages investments in automobile components and pads, automobile logistics, household electrical appliances and mechanical processing, while Jiading Nanxiang HTP encourages investments in electronics, IT, advanced electrical machinery, elevators and metalwork manufacturing industries.

By the end of 2004, Shanghai Jiading AIZ had introduced 234 foreign and domestic firms with investments totaling RMB 28 billion. Its industrial output surpassed RMB 100 billion in the same year.

The major investors in this zone include Volkswagen, Shanghai Delphi Parker Electric, Shanghai Brose Automotive Components, Shanghai TRW Automotive Components and Fuyao Group (Shanghai) Automobile Glass. Volkswagen invested EUR 240 million in an engine plant in 2003.
