TSMC, Fujitsu Microelectronics in technological tie-up

May 5, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd (TSMC), the world's largest contract manufacturer of microchips by revenue, and Japan's Fujitsu Microelectronics Limited on Thursday jointly announced to cooperate on leading-edge process technology production, sources reported.

The two companies also signed an agreement which enables TSMC to manufacture Fujitsu Microelectronics' products in its own fabs, including the 40-nanometer generation logic IC business products.

Fujitsu Microelectronics will provide IC design technologies, leading-edge imaging and communication intellectual property (IP), and technical support to customers, while TSMC will use its industry-leading technology and manufacturing capabilities to seek for potential clients in emerging markets.

Furthermore, the two companies will discuss on collaborative development of high performance process technologies for 28-nanometer and below for Fujitsu Microelectronics' product applications.
