Apr. 30, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Taiwan-based United Microelectronics Corp (UMC), the world's second largest contract chipmaker, on Wednesday said it will spend US$285 million to acquire an 85% stake in Hejian Technolgy, a mainland China-based chipmaker. UMC chief executive Sun Shih-wei said in a statement that UMC's broad of directors has approved the plan and will submit it to shareholders for approval.
