Introduction

 

Xiamen Jimei (Xinglin) Taiwanese Investment Zone, also known as Xiamen Jimei (Xinglin) TIZ, contains two of Xiamen's three state-level Taiwanese investment zones - Xiamen Jimei Taiwanese Investment Zone and Xiamen Xinglin Taiwanese Investment Zone.

 

Xiamen Jimei (Xinglin) TIZ is located in the Jimei District of Xiamen City on the mainland’s coast, facing Xiamen Island. Two bridges connect the Jimei District with Xiamen Island across the strait.

 

The zone is 18 km away from the downtown area on Xiamen Island and 8 km away from Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport. The Yingtan-Xiamen Railway, Xiamen-Zhangzhou-Quanzhou Highway and 324/319 National Highway all pass through Xiamen Jimei (Xinglin) TIZ, providing convenient transportation routes. Xiamen Port is the fourth largest port in the southeast coastal area of China, after Ningbo, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

 

Investment Climate

 

In 2007, the GDP of Xiamen Jimei (Xinglin) TIZ reached RMB 21.8 billion, up 22% over 2006, while its industrial output reached RMB 55.0 billion, up 23%. Its fixed assets investment jumped 76.3% to RMB 15.0 billion.

 

Xiamen Jimei (Xinglin) TIZ encourages the development of its electronics, chemicals, machinery and textile industries. By the end of 2007, there were 870 foreign invested companies, with a utilized investment of over US$3.0 billion. Major investors include TDK Electronics and Linde Gas.

 

TDK set up its factories in the zone as soon as the zone was established. It has invested over US$100 million in Xiamen Jimei (Xinglin) TIZ. Its annual sales exceeded RMB 3.0 billion in 2006, making it one of the top 100 companies in China's electronics industry.

 

Taiwanese are the main investors in Xiamen Jimei (Xinglin) TIZ. Currently, there are over 600 Taiwanese companies in Xiamen Jimei (Xinglin) TIZ. Laiming Glass, Luda Industrial Group and Zhengxin Rubber are some of them, to name a few.
