Introduction

Fuzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone (Fuzhou ETDZ) consists of 5 state-level development zones. Besides the economic and technological development zone, the four other zones are: Fuzhou Taiwan Investment Zone (Fuzhou Taiwan IZ), Fuzhou Free Trade Zone (Fuzhou FTZ), Fuzhou Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone (Fuzhou HIDZ) and Fuzhou Export Processing Zone (Fuzhou EPZ). It is the only development zone in China which has five zones combined into one.

Fuzhou ETDZ is located in the Mawei District (about 15km southeast of the city’s downtown area), at the mouth of the Min River, near Fuzhou Port (China's 14th largest port in terms of throughput in 2007). One of the main ports in Fuzhou, Mawei Port, is located in Fuzhou ETDZ. It is 276 km away from Taiwan's Keelung Port.

Besides being accessible by sea, it is also very accessible by road, air and rail. Two highways pass through Fuzhou ETDZ, connecting it with the highway network in Southeast China. It is also a mere 25 km away from the Fuzhou Airport. In addition, the nearby Fuzhou-Mawei Railway is a major transport line between Fuzhou and Mawei, and its throughput of freight ranked 22^nd in China in 2007.
