Apr. 29, 2009 (China Knowledge) - China UnionPay (CUP), the only national credit card organization in China, on Monday officially launched a subsidiary in the U.S. as part of its globalization effort, the official Xinhua News reported. Liu Tinghuan, chairman of CUP, said in the opening celebration that the U.S. market has always been the company's strategic focus. UnionPay has expanded explosively in the U.S. since its entrance to the country in 2005. Currently, it has 360,000 automatic teller machines (ATMs) there. The company said Sunday that its has set up automatic teller machines (ATMs) in nine countries in the Middle East, West Asia and Africa, so that its network now reaches 61 countries and regions, according to an earlier report from China Knowledge.
