Apr. 24, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Toyota Motor Corp on Thursday began to recall 259,119 Camry sedans in China due to the brake flaws, China Daily reported. The Japanese automaker said it has submitted a report to the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine in March. The sedans to be called were manufactured between May 2006 and March 2008 by its joint venture in South China, the Guangzhou Toyota Motor Co Ltd, which started selling the Camry sedans in the country from 2006. The automaker said in a statement that brakes on the affected vehicles could fail due to a design flaw in the vacuum pump. It is offering its customer a free replacement. The recall is likely to cost the Japanese automaker around RMB 800 million to RMB 1.3 billion, according to sources.
