Google to further integrate social networking website in China

Published: 23 Apr 2009 19:23:09 PST

Apr. 24, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Google Inc, the world's leading online search engine, aims at further integrating its resources in China's major community site, Tianya Club, and may set up a joint venture to run the BBS and Q&A businesses, according to an unnamed insider, sources reported.

The speculation came after Google's recent acquisition of domain names such as "laiba.com," "laiba.cn," and "laiba.com.cn", according to sources. "Laiba", a Chinese social networking site, was jointly launched by Google and Tianya Club in 2007.

No comments from the two companies were available so far.

Google, which has been stepping up efforts in expanding its business in China, said it has invested in Tianya Club but denied that it acquired a 60% stake in the website, according to earlier media reports.
