Introduction
Shenzhen is located in the southern part of Guangdong Province in the Pearl River Delta. The municipality is bordering Hong Kong to the south. It lies 100 km south-east of Guangzhou, the capital city of Guangdong, and 60 km away from Zhuhai to the south-west. In 1980, the first Special Economic Zone of China was built in Shenzhen, where special economic policies and flexible government measures are endowed. Currently, Shenzhen governs six districts, of which Luohu, Futian, Nanshan and Yantian Districts are within the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, while Bao'an and Longgang Districts are outside the zone.
Shenzhen is easily accessible by air, land and water. Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport is the fourth-largest airport in terms of freight traffic. In 2007, it handled 616,172 tons of freight, up 10.2% over the previous year. The airport currently offers one-hundred and fifty-six international and domestic airlines weekly, connecting the city with a further eighty major cities in the world. Shenzhen Railway Station offers daily routes to Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Changsha, Shantou and other cities in China. Shenzhen Port, adjacent to Hong Kong, handled 21.1 million TEUs in 2007, ranking as the fourth-largest port in the world, and the second-largest port in China in terms of container throughput.
Lying in the subtropical part of China, Shenzhen enjoys a mild climate, with plentiful sunshine and rainfalls all year around. Though the civilian population is small, and the number of colleges is lower than that of Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, the fast economic growth, supporting policies by the government and the friendly environment in Shenzhen has attracted many workforces and high-end talents to work in the city.
