Introduction
Meizhou, a prefecture-level city in the northeastern part of Guangdong Province, is situated at the juncture of Guangdong Province, Jiangxi Province and Fujian Province. It borders Fujian Province to the east, Chaozhou, Jieyang and Shanwei to the south, Heyuan to the west and Jiangxi Province to the north. It covers an area of 15,925 sq km and has a population of 6.1 million.
The city is about 400 km from the special economic zone, Shenzhen, and the provincial capital city, Guanghzhou. The Guangzhou-Meizhou Railway, State Highway 205 and State Highway 206 run through the city and link it with other major cities in Guangdong Province. Meizhou Meixian Airport, located in Sanjiao Town, offers regular flights to Guangzhou and Hong Kong.
Meizhou has a subtropical monsoon climate, with an average temperate above 20℃. The city is rich in mineral resources, such as coal, iron, copper, manganese and lead. The proven iron ore reserves in the city exceed 270 million tons. The reserves of iron and manganese in Meizhou comprise 30% and 20% of Guangdong Province's total, respectively.
