It covers an area of 15,925 sq km and has a population of 6.1 million.

The city is about 400 km from the special economic zone, Shenzhen, and the provincial capital city, Guanghzhou. Meizhou Meixian Airport, located in Sanjiao Town, offers regular flights to Guangzhou and Hong Kong.

Meizhou has a subtropical monsoon climate, with an average temperate above 20. The city is rich in mineral resources, such as coal, iron, copper, manganese and lead.
