Introduction

Jiaxing Export Processing Zone, approved by the State Council in March 2003, has a total planned area of 2.98 km2. It is one of the three state-level export processing zone in Zhejiang. The zone is located in the south wing of the Yangtze River Delta, northern bank of Hangzhou Bay and adjacent to the Shanghai Pudong New Area. It is about 100 km from Shanghai, Hangzhou, Suzhou and Ningbo, the 4 major cities in the Yangtze River Delta. The Hangzhou Bay Great Bridge greatly minimizes the traveling distance from Jiaxing to Shanghai.

The zone is 2 km from the Zhapu-Jiaxing-Suzhou Expressway. In addition, the Shanghai-Hangzhou Expressway connects the zone with Shanghai Hongqiao Airport and Pudong International Airport. It also has a good water traffic system. The country’s national first-class Jiaxing (Zhapu) Port is only 2 km away from this zone. In the first half of 2008, the port ranked eighth in terms of coal throughput. The Grand Canal, the longest manmade canal in the world, is connected with Jiaxing Port, forming a well-developed waterway network for the zone.

Jiaxing Export Processing Zone can also be reached by railway, with a railway-waterway transfer station at Jiaxing Port. The Shanghai-Jinshan and Zhapu-Jiaxing-Huzhou railways, which will connect at the station, are under construction.

Investment Climate

The zone, aiming to be the gathering and distribution center of hi-tech industries in Hangzhou Bay, encourages investment in machinery, electronics, fine equipment and tool manufacturing industries.

The zone enjoys preferential policies, such as duty-free importation and exportation, tax exemption for commodities flowing between export processing zones and bonded imported material, as well as fast customs clearance services.
