Apr. 16, 2009 (China Knowledge) - The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), and the Beijing municipal government, Tianjin and Hebei Province have reached an agreement to build the capital's second airport at Daxing district, Hong Kong-based Ta Kung Pao reported on Wednesday, citing an unnamed source. The paper said it took seven years to choose the best location for the airport and now the plan is waiting for the approval of the State Council. Local government of Daxing district declined to comment on the news. Daxing district is located in the south of Beijing, adjoining Hebei Province and Tianjin. The new airport is expected to help boost the economic development of Tianjing and Langfang, Zhuozhou, Shijiazhuang and Baoding in Hebei Province. Construction is expected to start in 2010 and be completed in 2015, according to earlier report.
