Apr. 6, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Advanced Micro Devices Inc (AMD) and Hisense Group, parent of Hisense Electric Co Ltd<600060> and Hisense Kelon Electrical Holdings Co<000921><921>, yesterday launched the AMD-Hisense Joint Lab at Hisense's R&D center, sources reported. The joint lab enables the two companies to optimize digital home products for software and hardware platforms and apply the technology to high-end products. Meanwhile, commercial point-of-sale (POS) hardware using the AMD chip will also be developed in the lab. Billy Wang, corporate vice president of Greater China Sales, said the cooperation between the two companies is in line with AMD's strategy in China. AMD will mainly provide low-power X86 embedded computer technology to the lab. Hisense will contribute its applications expertise, especially in embedded multimedia products, such as digital home multimedia centers, commercial POS systems and smart mobile phones. In February, AMD signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Shandong provincial government to form a strategic development cooperation to develop the integrated circuit industry in the province.
