Apr. 2, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Zhengzhou Yutong Group Co Ltd, parent of Zhengzhou Yutong Bus Co Ltd<600066>, plans to launch mass production of new-energy buses in the second half of 2009, the Xinhua News Agency reported. Zhengzhou Yutong has developed seven petrol-electric hybrid bus models, which are under trial operation in Beijing, Guangzhou and Zhengzhou. The bus manufacturer began its R&D of new-energy buses as early as 1999. The 12-meter-long hybrid bus models will be able to save energy by up to 19% compared with the ordinary manual transmission (MT) bus. Zhengzhou Yutong is actively seeking government approval to produce the buses under the new-energy vehicles stimulus policy.
