TAIPEI, Feb 16 - Quanta Computer, the world's largest contract manufacturer of laptop PCs, said on Monday its first-quarter shipments would fall by 30 percent or more from the fourth quarter due to weak consumer spending.
The company typically sees a fall of 20-25 percent over the same period each year, but the decline this year will be greater than usual due to the current global financial crisis, which has dampened consumer spending, a company official told Reuters.
However, the company maintained its previous view that it would be able to grow in line with the global PC industry this year.
Quanta shipped 10.1 million laptops in the fourth quarter. At 0119 GMT, the company's shares were up 0.14 percent, lagging the benchmark TAIEX's 0.24 percent climb.
