Feb. 11, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Dongfeng Automobile Co Ltd<600006>, a subsidiary of China's third-largest automaker Dongfeng Motor Corp, said it sold 7,858 cars in January, representing a year-on-year decline of 49.72%, the Shanghai Securities News reported today, citing a company statement. Dongfeng Automobile said that it sold 5,601 light vehicles, down 52.14% year-on-year. The sales of SUV, MPV and pick-up declined 52.14% to 2,257 units. Besides, its engine sales also tumbled 59.93% to 6,470 units. The auto maker earlier said that the company sold 170,000 commercial vehicles last year, worth RMB 17 billion in total. The Chinese auto maker aims to increase auto sales by 5% to 183,700 units this year and expects its engine sales to hit 139,500, with sales revenue of RMB 17.5 billion.
