Jan. 5, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Prices of livestock products in China, such as live pig and milk, will maintain a downward trend this year, said Wang Zhicai, director of the stockbreeding department of the Ministry of Agriculture. By the end of November last year, the average pork price plunged 25.4%, compared with the highest price in last February. Due to the economic recession, the market demand for livestock products is shrinking, while the supply of live pig will climb up because of the increased progenitive sows in China in 2008, said Wang. Reportedly, the Ministry of Agriculture will focus on the standard cultivation this year to improve the quality of products and speed up the development of livestock industry.
