Hangzhou speeds up highway network construction

Dec. 26, 2008 (China Knowledge) - Hangzhou plans to set aside around RMB 82.1 billion to build a highway network with designed length of 645.6 kilometers in total over the next 5 years.

In the city's "two rings and eight expressways" plan, 464.8 km of the highway will be built within the city, with 215.3 km yet to be completed.

The first 123-km ring road is operational now, and it is estimated that the proposed second ring road will involve RMB 35.15 billion worth of investment.

Statistic shows that government investment contributed more than 40% to the city's economic growth rate in average from 2000 to 2007.
