Hunan Corun sues Vale Inco for patent infringement

Dec. 4, 2008 (China Knowledge) - Hunan Corun New Energy Co Ltd<600478>, a Shanghai-listed nickel processor and battery maker sued two Chinese subsidiaries of Canadian Vale Inco, which is wholly owned by the world's largest mining enterprise Vale in an intermediary court in Hunan Province, sources reported.

Corun accused Inco Advanced Technology Materials (Dalian) and Inco Advanced Technology Materials (Shenyang) of patent infringement, and Corun announced that the two subsidies use its patent to make nickel foam used for battery production.

Corun claims nearly RMB 90 million in damages from the infrigement, said sources. 

In addition, Vale Inco expected to sell the two joint-venture subsidiaries, which Corun intends to buy one or both of them, citing the industry insider.
