China Telecom acquires CDMA network in Macao

Dec. 3, 2008 (China Knowledge) - China Telecom<728><CHA>, the largest fixed service telecommunications provider in China, are now in charge of the CDMA net work in Macao after it has taken over China Unicom's<600050><762><CHU> CDMA business for RMB 110 billion.  

The acquisition will also allow China Telecom to run the 3G network in the SAR, which was put into operation in 2007 after China Unicom gained the CDMA license in Macau in 2006. The original services of China Unicom Macau, such as mobile phone numbers, roaming services, will remain unaffected.

Currently, there are over 40,000 local CDMA users in the city.
