China Telecom competes with rivals with CDMA services

Published: 25 Nov 2008 02:07:46 PST

Nov. 25, 2008 (China Knowledge) - China Telecom<728><CHA>, which acquired the CDMA business from China Unicom<600050><762><CHU> in October amid a government-initiated industrial restructuring, expects to gain a bigger share in China's mobile telecoms market, sources reported.

The company said it would invest RMB 80 billion in three years to upgrade and enlarge the existing CDMA network.

It has already improved its CDMA network and the WiFi technology in Beijing, and launched its first batch of broadband access cards for CNMA terminals in the city, with more attractive prices.

China Telecom expects to develop CDMA into China's top brand among mobile internet users with laptops by integrating its fixed-line broadband and mobile broadband services, according to a company executive.
