China sees growing mobile phone web users
Published: 25 Nov 2008 02:07:37 PSTNov. 25, 2008 (China Knowledge) - The number of mobile phone web users in China hit 73.05 million by the end of June 2008, accounting for around 30% of China's 253 million internet users, sources reported, citing a recent report released by the Chinese Institute of Publishing Science. This report indicates that currently Chinese mobile phone users access the Internet mainly via WAP (Wireless Application Protocol). Numbers of active WAP users and WAP sites with independent domain names amounted to 39 million and 65,000 respectively by the end of March 2007. It is expected that in 2008 there will be 230 million WAP users in China with a total market valued at RMB 22 billion.
