Nov. 24, 2008 (China Knowledge) - Macao received 2,623,548 visitors in October, representing a year-on-year increment of 8.0%, announced the Statistics and Census Service of the Macao SAR government. Visitors were mainly from Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia, which account for 58.5%, 26.7% and 5.5% of the total respectively. The number of visitors from Chinese mainland (1,534,609) and Southeast Asia (143,234) recorded notable increases of 12.2% and 23.9% respectively, while those from Hong Kong (701,429) slightly rose 1.2% from a year earlier. Same-day visitors were 1,440,047, accounting for 54.9% of the total. Over the first ten months this year, visitor arrivals totaled 25,109,041, representing a year-on-year rise of 14.5%. Of the total, visitors from Chinese mainland and Southeast Asia went up 21.9% and 43.1% year-on-year respectively, while those from Hong Kong slightly moved up 0.1% over the same period of last year. Same-day visitors stood at 13,342,487, contributing 53.1% to the total. During the Jan.-Oct. period, visitors arriving at Macao by sea rose 9.4% from a year ago to 7,955,716, while visitors arriving by land and by air totaled 15,729,987 and 1,423,338, representing year-on-year growth of 16.9% and 19.7% respectively.
