Nov. 24, 2008 (China Knowledge) - U.S.-based Dunkin' Donuts, the world's largest coffee and baked goods chain, opened its first mainland outlet in Shanghai on Thursday, sources reported.

The new store, offering coffee, espresso, teas and frozen drinks, along with doughnuts, bagels and other baked goods, also serve items customized for local tastes such as green tea and honeydew melon doughnuts, as well as mochi rings, which are similar to cake doughnuts but made with rice flour indigenous to the region.

Launching the new store will help Dunkin' Donuts better enhance its presence on the mainland market, according to an official with media department of Dunkin' Donuts. When asked about the impact to other rivals after its foray into the mainland market, the official refused to comment on this matter.

The U.S. seller of coffee and baked goods also plans to add 100 more Chinese franchises over the next 10 years.

Dunkin' Donuts, which has 10 shops in Taipei, plans to add 10 shops this year in Taiwan, as per industry sources.
