Nov. 19, 2008 (China Knowledge) - Chery Automobile Co. Ltd (Chery Auto), one of the leading Chinese home-grown auto makers, inked a cooperation agreement with Thai Yarnyon Co. to assemble Chinese cars in Thailand, according to Xinhua.

The tie-up marks that the Chinese automaker has officially entered the Thailand market as well as the Southeast Asian regions, said industry analysts.

Pursuant to the agreement, Thai Chery Yarnyon will start to assemble Chery vehicle models in Thailand, including QQ and Tiggo in SKD form.

Thai Chery Yarnyon, jointly set up by Thai Yarnyon, Yontrakit's subsidiary, and Thailand's agribusiness conglomerate Charoen Pokphand Group, plans to produce 5,000 vehicles per year initially. Its products target at both domestic and Southeast Asian markets.

So far, Chery has set up eight plants overseas, including Russia, Ukraine, Iran, Egypt and Uruguay, etc. with combined output capacity of 150,000 vehicles a year.
