Dec. 18, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Beijing, the capital of China, saw the number of vehicles total 3.99 million as of Dec. 13, and the figure is expected to exceed four million in a few days, according to the Beijing Traffic Administration Bureau.
It is estimated that Beijing will have 5.5 million vehicles in 2015, compared with 2 million in August 2003 and 3 million in May 2007.
Earlier this month, the Chinese government announced that it will extend the stimulus measures in the auto industry for another year. However, the purchase tax for cars with an engine capacity of, or less than, 1.6 L will be increased to 7.5% from the current 5%.
In response to the new policy, Beijing adds more than 9,000 vehicles within the week from Nov. 30 to Dec.6.
