Dec. 16, 2009 (China Knowledge) - China's 3G users have reached 9.77 million by the end of October, among which 3.94 million are subscribers of China Mobile's<0941><CHL> TD-SCDMA services, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology yesterday.
Chinese carriers have been extending the network coverage and improving the network quality this year, with a total investment of RMB 102.3 billion so far.
Reportedly, China Telecom<0728><CHA> has completed the first-stage network construction, by setting up 117,000 base stations covering 342 prefecture-level cities, 2,055 counties and county-level cities and more than 6,000 developed villages and towns.
The second phase of China Mobile's TD network construction has been completed. 46,000 base stations in 38 cities have been put into commercial operation. It has also finished the public biddings for the equipments of the third-phase construction of 42,000 base stations in 200 cities. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.
China Unicom<600050><0762><CHU> has launched 3G services in 285 cities since Oct. 1 and has finished construction of 80,000 3G outdoor base stations by the end of October.
