Apr. 9, 2009 (China Knowledge) - The Guangzhou Hotels Association, the local regulatory organization that oversees more than 2,000 hoteliers in Guangzhou City, yesterday published its advisory prices for the upcoming Canton Fair, the largest trade fair in China, the Shanghai Daily reported.
The advisory price list, which includes prices for rooms at hotels rated with two or more stars, recommends prices that are around 20% lower than the hotels' current prices.
According to the list, the rate for a standard room in a five-star hotel will not exceed RMB 1,790 per day and the rate for a five-star business suite will not exceed RMB 2,310 per day. A standard room at a two-star hotel should cost no more than RMB 429 per day, and a business suite at a two-star hotel should cost no more than RMB 540 per day.
Lin Weimin, the association president, yesterday said that hotel room reservations dropped with respect to the corresponding period of one year earlier. The advisory prices were made to support the Canton Fair, Lin added.
The fair's organizers sent invitations to 800,000 overseas buyers this year and spent over RMB 10 million in advertising to attract more business clients during the global financial crisis.
