SPINEXPO: Seleted for You

General

The 13th edition of SPINEXPO ¨C Shanghai was held at the Pudong Expo Center on 24-26 February 2009. 138 spinners and textile promoter came together to present their spring/summer 2010 collection to buyers from the lat knit (sweaters) and circular knit (T-shirt and knitted fabrics) sectors, weavers of apparel and furnishing fabrics, and manufacturers of lingerie, lace and hosiery.

Due to economic dificulties, the number of visitors was down by 13% compared with S/S 2008 (benchmark season), and by 12.5% compared with the A/W 2008 fair. Nevertheless, the atmosphere was extremely positive with exhibitors reporting outcomes that clearly exceeded their expectations. The statistics revealed behavior that was completely different from previous sessions, indicating that visitors spent a minimum of two out of three days at the show, as opposed to one, and made on-the-spot decisions in placing their orders.

The decrease in visitors is spread equally between local and overseas visitors, with variations closely matching the economic situations of the countries concerned. Japan showed a decrease of 15% (compared with the benchmark), Korea a decrease of 50% and Hong Kong 25%. There were fewer visitors from Europe but a steady number of buyers from the USA and a deinite increase from South American countries. Buyers from Chinese market made up 75% of the total, down by only 9% compared with S/S 2008, with no variation in the regions represented.

A higher percentage of visitors interested in circular knit yarns, consistent with the S/S season, and a routine progression of representatives from the clothing and furnishing fabrics sector, corresponding to a greater sophistication of the industry at the local market level. The knitted accessories sector (hosiery, hats and other small items) is also showing strong growth.

In contrast to the climate of crisis noted at the textile trade fairs held in Europe during February 2009, SPINEXPO took place in a dynamic and positive atmosphere: overall, the results are satisfactory, and in some cases unexpected, for the exhibiting companies.

The organizers are convinced that visitor behavior is changing. Today visitors carefully choose their show and explore it in depth, as opposed to previous years when visitors went from one show to another to establish an overall impression.

Buyers have had to limit their travel due to the economic difficulties, and to concentrate on the tools most suitable for their product research.

This concept strengthens the SPINEXPO policy: establishing a show on a specific continent that enables visitors from neighbouring countries to select their products from a quality international range, bringing people from all countries together.

Today a good product is a quality product sold at a price point corresponding to the market for which it has been designed. Buyers are tending to look for better quality rather than the lowest price; but an extraordinary product that is too expensive for the market is not necessarily a good product either.

As a complement to a broad product range, SPINEXPO is boosting its trend area with very targeted initiatives to offer its buyers a real working tool that enables them to start their collection immediately after visiting the show.
All the information concerning trends and marketing are brought together in illustrated booklets, which are complimentary to visitors at SPINEXPO, and forms the philosophy of the show.

Due to the renovations, the Catwalk area was staged on the Mezzanine level. The knit collections developed by Stoll China, by Giovanni Cavagna for SPINEXPO, and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University collection were presented, enabling visitors to discover the important trends and derails for the upcoming season.

Two shows will be held for the next A/W 2010-2011 season, starting with the launch of SPINEXPO New York at the Metropolitan Pavilion/Altman Building, on 20-22 July 2009.

This event will bring together 70-75 exhibitors from all over the world. The 14th SPINEXPO shanghai, the most important trade fair for professionals working in Asia, will be held on 8-10 September 2009, at Pudong Expo Center, and will feature an increased number of exhibitors, located on two floors of the exhibition area, with the catwalk moved an outside terrace in a tent specially designed for the purpose.

Proile of Company

Filpucci

Forty years of creativity, experimentation and innovation. Four decades spent pursuing and reaching ever-new goals. This inexhaustible energy invested in researching new formulas and materials has translated into a rich selection of yarns for industry and handknitting. Brushed or processed, using innovative technologies, Filpucci yarns have an identity all their own. From the traditional handknitting-style heavy yarns to infinitesimally fine state-of-the-art yarns, the common denominator is lightness. Their complex core, the fruit of numerous production processes, translates into simplicity and versatility on the outside: essential elements for knitwear designers.

Although the volatile consumer market has already led to a 10-15% cut of the total sales, Filpucci still shows great conidence to its products.

STOLL

Stoll, a leading manufacturer in computerized flat knitting machines, brought the latest color and pattern trend collections during the exhibition fair.

This year the Stoll Trend Collection SS 2010 lives on near nuances and color shades that seem to go softly together to a casual mood. Different blue and grey tones are giving the base, supported by clear white and bright violet. The fresh green color is the contrast in this muted range.

Zegna Baruffa Lane Borgosesia

With 150 years of experience be-hind it, Zegna Baruffa Lane Borgosesia is one of the most well known and highly appreciated names in the textile industry. As a company highly spe-cialised in the production and commer-cialisation of yarns in natural ibres for knitwear, Zegna Baruffa Lane Borgose-sia has a completely integrated vertical structure.
The production cycle, including dyeing and every single treatment, is managed internally. For this reason as for many oth-ers, the company today can count on a vast produc-tion capacity, capable of delivering more than 11 mil-lion kilos of yarn each year.

Their strategy remains unchanged and resolutely turned towards careful management of raw materials so as to provide the international market with prod-ucts of exceptional reinement thanks to 100% Made in Italy production. Technological concentration is on super extrafine wool yarns and combed cashmere yarns.

The company's lagship product is still cashwool supermelange®, often copied but never equalled. The idea of service is also one of the irm's strong points.
