SMMA and NAFED give away 250 Alibaba.com Gold Supplier International Edition memberships to boost Indonesian exporters

Jakarta, June 26, 2009 – Indonesia's National Agency for Export Development (NAFED) today announced that 250 of its members will receive a complimentary 1-year subscription to Alibaba.com's highest membership level, Gold Supplier International Edition from PT Sinar Mas Multiartha, Tbk. (SMMA), Alibaba.com's Indonesian exclusive channel partner.  Amid shrinking world demand, NAFED aims to increase the competitiveness of Indonesian products in the global marketplace and enable local companies to gain access to active buyers on the world's largest B2B website.

At the press conference, NAFED also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SMMA whereby Alibaba.com became the preferred e-commerce website for NAFED members and will be invited to future NAFED events such as export-focused trade shows and seminars.

Alibaba.com has close to 250,000 registered users from Indonesia and has seen its local membership base grow by more than 100 percent in the last 12 months as an increasing number of Indonesian businesses turn to e-commerce to help them weather the economic storm.  In October 2008, SMMA became Alibaba.com’s exclusive channel partner in Indonesia to help more local exporters move their business online.  Listed on the Jakarta Stock Exchange, SMMA is the finance arm of Sinar Mas Group, one of the largest conglomerates in Indonesia, and has more than 100 offices and a 1,000-strong sales force across the country.

Indonesian companies can sign up for Gold Supplier International Edition from July 1, 2009.  As the top level of membership on Alibaba.com's B2B platform, local exporters can enjoy many of the same features as their Greater China counterparts, including first-level ranking in a buyers' search result, Gold Supplier logo display and product showcases.
