My company is an apparel sourcing agent based in Karachi, Pakistan, providing services related to manufacturing apparel for all genders and ages.
I learnt about Alibaba.com in 1999 while surfing the internet. Initially we started as a free member, but soon we realized that it was not enough. To get more business, I needed buyers to have confidence in my company, something which was hard to convey online.
In 2001, we signed on to Premium Membership, and our inquiries started to increase substantially. We were getting 10 to 15 inquiries a week as a Free Member, but once we joined Premium Membership, our inquiries jumped to around 30 to 40 a week.
As the amount of inquiries increased, so did our sales. Joining Premium Membership even helped us with our current customers, one of whom started placing large orders when he had previously only made orders bordering on the minimum order quantity.
A key to success on Alibaba.com is the amount of time devoted to keeping your information up to date. We always keep a look out for new leads, and display new products and styles regularly to keep buyers updated on what we have to offer.
We also use a lot of the tools available on Alibaba.com, such as TradeManager. If a buyer visits your showroom, they don't have to wait or send you an email or message to contact you. Instead, he can contact you directly and immediately thru TradeManager. My experience has taught me to keep TradeManager on as much as possible, since the more you are online, the more chance you have of communicating with current as well as potential buyers.
