Judging from the disappointing Thanksgiving weekend for retailers, Americans are spending less on presents for under the tree. The sliver of good news is that they appear to spending more on decorating the Christmas tree and their homes.
Clark Griswold would be happy to hear that U.S. imports of Christmas decorations in October rose 92.3% year-over-year to 24,920 TEUs, according to PIERS trade data. That was the healthiest year-over-year leap in at least five years. China dominates the market for Christmas decoration exports to the U.S., with 93% of all shipments between January and October.
