Viettel may buy WiMAX from Taiwan GemTek

May. 12, 2008 (China Knowledge) - Viettel, Vietnam-based telephone company and network service provider, planned to purchase WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) products from Taiwan's GemTek Technology Co, sources citing industry insiders as saying.

Senior managers from Viettel and GemTek met to discuss the latter's customer-end server of WiMAX last week, leading the insiders to the estimate aftermath on purchase possibility between the two companies, sources said.

So far, there are no comments from both sides.

GemTek, headquartered in Hsinchu Industrial Park, is one of the world's leading providers of wireless broadband solutions, distributing products via global distributors and other partners in the U.S. and the E.U.

WiMAX is a new communications technology that used to connect network clients and WiMAX server, which is capable of providing high speed and wireless frequency input both in fields of fixed phones and mobile phones.
