NEW DELHI, May 12 (Reuters) - India's industrial output <INIP=ECI> rose 3.0 percent in March from a year earlier, slowing from the previous month's unrevised 8.6 percent, data showed on Monday.
The figure was sharply below a forecast for growth of 6.2 percent in a Reuters poll of economists. Output growth has fallen from double-digit levels seen last year as tight monetary policy and a strong rupee clipped demand.
Manufacturing production <INMFG=ECI> rose 2.9 percent in March from a year earlier, compared with 8.6 percent in February.
Industrial output rose 8.1 percent in 2007/08 (April-March) compared with 11.6 percent in 2006/07.
